Our Beloved Dolly.
By Welcome Flagmount ex a Grey Macha mare, Dolly was an absolute character. She was our first Irish Draught mare here at Lough Melvin Stud.
She gave us some beautiful foals, her first was Loughmelvin Failte, by Gurraun Zidane, who was superb broodmare in her own right, and the dam of our 3 Gortfree Hero mares.
Dolly used to make the trip from Fermanagh to Cork once a year, hop off the lorry, graciously allow Holycross to cover her, and back home again. Always in foal after the one covering.
Dolly mellowed with age, but there was always a bit of the 'Chestnut Mare' in her.
She will be greatly missed by us all.

The beautiful Mabel.
Mabel and Gortfree Hero had such a good thing going on, she never went to anyone else!
We lost Mabel very suddenly and unexpectedly when her last foal, Loughmelvin Fionn was only 6 weeks old.
We are very proud to still have 3 of her beautiful fillies, all full sisters by Gortfree Hero:
